Creatures Of The Deep

What do y'all think of these fun clothes from Fam Irvoll at London Fashion Week? Would you wear something like this? I have to admit I'm really loving the slime jersey!

I know these ones are a little on the extreme side, but faces & eyes on sweaters is actually a pretty popular look right now. Like this cute Opening Ceremony cat sweater which has popped up on many a Street Style blog this year.

I'd love to get hold of some felt & DIY some eyes & monster teeth onto one of my old jerseys. I think it'd make a fun addition to my winter wardrobe without breaking the bank. Watch this space!

Baby Blues & Other Hues

I recently got my dad to pick me up some belated birthday pressies while on a business trip to Londontown. Tragically most of the stuff I wanted was not in stock, or appeared to be in stock but had actually been shoplifted (yes, crime does exist outside of SA, contrary to popular opinion...). But I did get this lovely faded denim skirt from Miss Selfridge. I'm thinking about replacing the buttons as I feel the pearly plastic ones look a little cheap, but it does come with pockets and I do love pockets on skirts! In fact I think all skirts should come with those little hand holes, even the whorey YDE/Tiger Tiger miniskirts, actually especially the whorey YDE/Tiger Tiger miniskirts as pockets may give them some sense of respectability (or at least a place to store a condom).

The necklace used to belong to my step gran & is made from shell. The ring's a bit of an odd one, my aunt gave it to me. It's big & glass and black with globs of blue and glittery bronze bits. It's actually the 1st time I've worn it, but I felt like it went with the outfit.

My First Editorial

So you may or may not remember that in October last year I had the opportunity to conceptualize, organize and style a fashion editorial for a new online magazine, the name of which I have decided to withhold. I spoke about the both stressful and awesome experience here. So after all the work had been done, I'd made my final selections & the photog had edited them, the mag's latest issue ended up getting pushed back by about 2 months. Fast forward 2 months later & the editor contacted me to say he'd decided not to use the shoot as he didn't feel that the clothes were "interesting" enough* Well I'll let y'all be the judge of that, I don't want to waste all of our hard work, so the least I can do is publish them myself on my own little blog.

The concept I was going for was a modern take on the 90's film Empire Records, three hip young kids who work in a record store. I wanted the fashion to have a rock 'n roll edge but with lots of COLOUR. My superstars for the day were Sydney & Natasha from 20 Management and Milan from Base. Gerhard De Kock was our photographer.

Please share your thoughts, I'd love to hear!

Clothing & accessories from Traffic, Me Me Me, Bonafide, Skint, Wingz, Mungo & Jemima, Michiko London, The Lot and a couple of pieces from my own wardrobe.

Special thanks to:

*to my knowledge the issue has yet to be published

I Heart Balmain

Oh yes I do! The Baroque & Roll aesthetic of the fashion house was evident as ever in their A/W showing at Paris Fashion Week. Here are a few of my favourite looks.

Just look at that gorgeous velvet! What exactly do you call that colour? Teal? Sapphire? Well I call it awesome, but I'm sure there's an official name. The fishbone-style belts showed up in loads of their looks, perhaps the next big thing in accessories?

Late Summer Daze

Happy Human Rights Day fellow South Africans! If you have the day off from work I hope you're relaxing and soaking up some sunshine, like the gorgeous Luisa Bianchin is doing here for L'Officiel Paris Feb 2012. Retro outdoor elegance at its finest.

Cheap & Cheerful

In preparation for autumn I missioned out to uber mall Canal Walk yesterday to do some window shopping & a teensy bit of buying too. After popping in to all the usual suspects, eating chow mein from Canal Wok (clever name that) and drooling over the severely fancy yet surprisingly inexpensive contents of Charles & Keith (how did I not know about this store?!) I managed to restrain myself from burning my carefully stored savings & picked out just a few cheap little gems, pictured below.

I love Zoot. It stocks loads of random labels I've never heard of mostly at steal prices. You can also find some select pieces from international brands like H&M, Pimkie & Forever 21. I picked up this fun, striped & slouchy boys sweater & then couldn't resist this graphic t. At just R70 and with a sheer black lace back, how could I resist? They also had some great combat boots for under 300 that I may just go back for when the weather gets a little colder. As a rule I generally avoid shops that have the word "Fashion" in their name (also, anything that ends in "Rama"), but for only R160 I had to buy the grey crocheted jersey from Fashion Express!

Accessories! Latest addition to my ring collection- black, gold & white pyramid ring from Lovisa, a great store with the same price range & level of awesomeness as Diva as well as burlesque-esque earrings (try saying that quickly!) and adorable TV pendant necklace from Woman Street which makes up for it's odd name with it's cutesy pink & floral interior and really low prices.

Aah shopping, how do I love thee?!
