Off The Rails- Deer Hunter

A recent gem that I have discovered is the eclectic vintage treasure trove, Deer Hunter. Tucked away on Albert Street, Woodstock just past the Old Biscuit Mill, this boutique and coffee shop is kitted out in shades of Tiffany Blue & red & filled to the brim with all sorts of retro-fabulous treasures and lovely clothes. New to Cape Town, Deer Hunter opened it's doors on 12/12/12 and is in the process of developing the American diner-chic coffee shop at the front of the store. Their slogan is "We hunt so you don't have to" and it's evident!

Well worth a good, thorough browse, you can expect to find everything from clothes and accessories to vinyls, video games, collectables, books, magazines and decor items.

You can't help feeling like you've stepped back in town into someone else's unpretentiously cool house, albeit someone who's more than willing for you to try on all their clothes!

A wide range of favourite vintage labels can be found here such as Time & A Few Moths, Asseblief and Riya Bella Vintage, to name a few.

True to its name, quirky deer motifs can be found on every wall!

Blasts from the past- LPs, figurines from Dinosaurs! Kewpie dolls & collections of the best kids books like The Busy World of Richard Scarry, Paddington Bear and Noddy are all up for grabs.

They also boast an impressive magazine collection- think Woman's Weekly from the 1960's and vintage Playboys.

One of the owners, Shaun, behind the counter stocked with sweets, gloves, jewelry & toy soldiers

Open Mon-Fri from 10am-4pm and on Saturdays from 9am-4pm, you can pop in 409 Albert Road Woodstock.

And if you still have an appetite for more vintage, don't forget to stop by the next Vintage Wednesdays night market on Jan 30th, details here

Golden Globes Red Carpet

The 2013 Golden Globes was held in Tinseltown on Sunday, and this year I did not stay up to watch it live (on the DSTV I no longer have *sniff sniff*), but watched it with most of SA last night, so forgive me for being a day late on this.

I was not blown away by the fashion choices this year, too much "playing it safe". It's Hollywood, I want to be overwhelmed dammit! So my personal pics for best dressed are very few, but well deserved. Bring on the SAGs/BAFTAs/Oscars!

Isla Fisher in Reem Acra. There were many celebs who opted for embellished nudes and neutrals, but I thought Borat's wife pulled it off best in this sublime Reem Acra which looked amazing with her beautiful red hair.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Vera Wang. Couldn't manage to find a pic without the awkward hip-arm or nervous grin, but neither detract from the fact that this dress is spectacular.

This, ladies and gentlemen (or maybe just ladies), is how you do pregnancy-chic! Kristin Bell's Jenny Packham gown was pure elegance.

Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan. While I'm never quite sure why the likes of Nicole Richie, Heidi Klum, JLo etc keep getting invited to the Golden Globes, I thought Nicole looked stylishly 60's in this bold blue gown.

It's black, it's gold, it's McQueen- did you really think I wasn't going to love it? I do wish Kate had worn her hair up though.

Lucy Liu's Carolina Herrera floral ball gown was somthing of a controversy. I know it made a couple of worst dressed lists for it's general OTT-ness, but I kinda love it. Also, the bright yellow clutch and chunky fishtail plait were the perfect accessories.

And now for the worst...

It was a tough decision, Homeland actress Morena Baccarin nearly took the honours with her bizarre dress, Jennifer Lawrence's pointy side-boobs were also on thin ice & Guiliana Rancic's general gauntness led a bucketload of creepiness to what would otherwise have been a lovely gothic dress, but the fashion fail du soir has to go to Halle Berry in a tacky hip-baring Versace dress that looked very Miami Beach circa 1999.

Even Angelina Jolie's leg wouldn't be caught dead in this frock...
George and I had the exact same expression when we spotted Halle...

Style Hunting At The Queen's Plate

The L'Ormarins Queen's Plate has to be my favourite horsey event. The perfect blend of fun and old-school fanciness, it's also a fashion lover's dream with it's compulsory blue & white theme and abundance of hats. My outfit this year was something of a last-minute affair, but I was quite content with it in the end.

When I wasn't drinking copious amounts of champers/wine/cocktails in ostrich eggs (seriously, they were awesome- kudos to Merchants on Long!) or losing money on the races because I really suck at horse betting, I snapped pics of some of the outfits I really loved. I didn't really notice a theme until I got home and looked through my pics, but what can I say, I love lace!

Understated elegance in a navy column dress with matching hat
Loved the sheer overlay on this maxi-dress

Adorable lace dress with a bold bead necklace

Beautiful Desert Queen style (sorry about the portaloo backdrop!)
Kate Middleton's doppelganger in a baby blue peplum dress with lace inset & beaded clutch
One for the boys- these gents looked very Hamptons-chic
Cobalt satin with a princess skirt. Loved the hat!
Our new Miss SA, Marilyn Ramos, looked very chic in a navy peplum mini dress with white lace detailing in the front and back
Keeping it stylishly simple in plain blue with a cream bow
Another simple yet striking- blue lacy skater dress
Subtle daytime bling with a pastel LV clutch that made my eyes greener than they usually are!

And finally...couldn't resist snapping this chica's funky arm candy & shoes. Accessory awesomeness!

It's 2013 Bitches!

So you may have noticed that I took a bit of a break from this here blog lately (or not noticed- maybe you've just stumbled upon this page because you Googled "Glee Cast Naked" or "Camel Toe Queens" -according to my stats page these are actual searches that led visitors to this blog, God alone knows why...) Combination of internet issues & end of year madness, but I promise to be a better blogger this year- New Year's Resolution! I hope you had a lovely Christmas/Hanukkah/Public Holiday & a rockin New Year's Eve! I'll be back very soon, but in the meantime, here's a pic of Gemma Ward looking highly festive (by Patrick Demarchelier).
